Today was not my best day. I left work feeling drained, defeated, and in pain (both emotionally and physically.)
I got in my truck, opened my spotify hardcore playlist, and headed down the road. The first song was the last 20 seconds of a song I was listening to this morning. Then… a song called “Messy Masterpiece” by the band Worthwhile came on, and as it almost always does, it made me tear up. I should mention that “Carry On Kid” is one of my favorite albums. Every song on that album helped me get through a lot in 2013 when my mother was fighting cancer. Today, however, the lyrics:
“Grace and mercy come with every single morning dawn.
This heavenly heartbeat is the only reason I can carry on.”
gave me hope for tomorrow to be a little easier to get through than today was.
As the playlist was on random, I had no clue what the next song would be. But of course, it had to be another song that likes to make me cry. The song was from a band called Close Your Eyes, and the song is called “Valleys.”
“How can I forget the joy of the mountain tops, [When I’m] down in the valleys?”
It was like God knew the encouragement I needed and used something as simple as the music I listen to, to do it. But he wasn’t done there.
Lastly, the 3rd song that came up on random was a song by As Cities Burn called “Love Jealous One, Love.” It was the chorus of this song, today, that assisted in continuing the tears.
“We will wear compassion
We will wear it on our chests
And sing with love at our throats
Like a child, it’s all I know“
In just three songs on my way home, God reminded me that:
1. Tomorrow is a new day.
2. I can’t forget the good things when bad things happen.
3. And no matter what I’m going through, I need to remember I’m not the only one going through hard things.
I thought it would be cool to make a public playlist with the songs I talk about on this blog. It won’t always be heavy. Sometimes, it will be more mellow, hip-hop, and maybe even some merengue. Please check out the songs from this blog at the link below.
