Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV
The above passage is one of my favorites in all of the bible. The KJV in this same verse refers to Jesus as the Author and Finisher of our faith. It’s a beautiful reminder that our hardships on earth are only a fraction of what Jesus endured for us when he died on that cross. There is another verse that says:
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:6 ESV
These verses paint a wonderful image in my mind of all of the things that God has authored / founded / begun in our lives, while promising that he will perfect / finish / complete them all.
As I take the time to reflect on the life of my Maw-Maw who passed away in the middle of the night, it brings me joy to know that her life has been made complete and God was faithful to her from the beginning until the end. She is now made whole, and new and is in the presence of her savior.
Staying on theme with today’s blog, I have added the songs “The Finisher” by Oh Sleeper and “Sovereign” by Beautiful Eulogy to the Love Is Ugly Spotify Playlist, which you can check out above.
